Believing it to be true, the daughters murdered their own father. Jason appeared in front of Pelias and introduced himself as the rightful heir of Aeson. The Golden Fleece was suspended in an oak grove in the possession of king Aeëtes in Colchis (or hung in Aeëtes's temple), and guarded day and night by a dragon. The old lady thanked him and Jason was back on track towards the city of Volos. Each has a main story with variations: this is Jason's quest. The Argo was guided by the goddess to the island of Drepane, a territory of the Phaeacians, where Jason and Medea got married. Jason, in Greek mythology, leader of the Argonauts and son of Aeson, king of Iolcos in Thessaly. His father’s half-brother Pelias seized Iolcos, and thus for safety Jason was sent away to the Centaur Chiron.Returning as a young man, Jason was promised his inheritance if he fetched the Golden Fleece for Pelias, a seemingly impossible task. Therefore, the husbands coudln't stand their presence and casted them to this island. However, unusually for a hero of his stature, Jason received a lot of help along the way, not just from a goddess (Hera, who wanted to punish Pelias for neglecting to honor her), but also from the members of his crew, and, especially, from King Aeetes’ daughter, Medea, who fell in love with him and left everything behind her to be with him. Heracles, a member of the Argonauts’ crew himself, managed to kill many of them before the rest of the Argonauts came and pushed the giants back. The Argonauts were about experience the same fate, if it wasn't for Orpheus who had once again saved them by playing a far more powerful song with his lyre. After punishing her husband, she fled to Athens.

After the Argonauts set sail, they first reached the island of Lemnos. In the morning, when the king realised what happened, he ordered all of his troops to go after the Argo.

Once he realised the bitter truth, he plotted against Pelias and, therefore, asked Medea to use her sorcery to bring death upon him. Phineus, grateful for Jason's help, revealed to the Argonauts the location of Colchis as well as the method by which they may pass through the Symplegades, the Clashing Rocks. Jason’s second task was to sow dragon's teeth in the plowed field; though a seemingly easy task, its completion resulted in an army of stone warriors springing out from the earth.

Jason was about to become a son of king Aeson and Alcimede. Tired of living as an old man, he asked Zeus to show mercy on him. He beat them and used the plough to sow the dragon's teeth. A somewhat unconventional hero, Jason was the leader of the Argonautic Expedition in the quest of retrieving the Golden Fleece. But Zeus cursed him with taking away his vision for disclosing too many of his secrets. The mythical poet played the lyre so beautifully and loudly that it completely drowned out the Sirens’ voices and helped the Argonauts pass by these strangely beguiling monsters. Jason's strengths are his leadership and fearlessness.

Without many more dangerous encounters, Jason, Medea and the rest of the Argounauts, finally arrived back to Iolcos. Prepared by Medea and following her advice, Jason flung a rock in the midst of the mighty warriors. Jason (Iason) Jason was a Greek hero, most known for leading his Argonauts in a quest to obtain the golden fleece. As a boy, Jason was a victim of family quarrel in which his uncle Pelias killed his father Aeson and took the kingdom for himself. Jason was the son of the king of Iolcus, Aeson, but it is not certain who his mother was; various names appear in different sources. To gain power and wealth, he abandoned his family to marry Glauce. They sent him to the wise centaur Chiron to be raised. Using her drugs and spells, Medea caused the dragon to fall asleep, just long enough for Jason to snatch the Golden Fleece and carry it back to the Argo. King Cyzicus greeted the Argonauts warmly and had given them all the provisions they needed. Pelias, in the meantime, learned from an oracle to be wary of a man wearing a single sandal and coming from the country. Meanwhile, Pelias, in fear of being overthrown, approached the Oracle of Delphi where he was prophesied to beware of a man with one sandal.

And the sudden death came when a rotten piece of the Argo fell on his head.

Jason may have killed himself in despair after the loss of his children, or killed in a fire at the palace in Corinth. Before the Argonauts finally departed, they had a funeral for the king together with the local men.

Even the gods intervened in building this ship, with Athena helping to fasten the process and Zeus providing timber from one of his finest oaks. In the course of their journey, Jason and the Argonauts met with many adventures and perils (see Argonauts for a more extended account) – and overcome them all.

To redeem themselves, Jason and Medea had to stop at the island of Aeaea, where the nymph Circe, Aeetes’ sister, purified them from the sin, not knowing its gravity or type. Not knowing who the culprit was, the dragon warriors attacked each other, destroying themselves. Castor was a great horseman, while Pollux was the best boxer around.

They were nearly home when they approached Crete. Fortunately, the Argonauts recalled the encounter of Heracles with these birds and with their swords started beating upon their shields to make a loud noise. During the night, Jason, Orpheus and Medea approached the sleepless dragon which guarded the golden fleece. The Argonauts eventually managed to return to their home. A somewhat unconventional hero, Jason was the leader of the Argonautic Expedition in the quest of retrieving the Golden Fleece. Medea cast a spell on him and managed to remove the plug that kept Talos' ichor (the divine blood) in his single vein. While Heracles was working, Hylas went for more water and was charmed by a sea-nymph. The Symplegades were huge rock cliffs that would move and crush anything that passed between them. Jason took pity on Phineus and ordered his crew to help the king; after luring down the Harpies with a luxurious feast, the Boreads (Calais and Zetes) chased the Harpies away for good. Aeetes tried to follow them, but Medea killed her brother Apsyrtus and threw his pieces into the sea, causing Aeetes to stop and retrieve them. As a result of this accident, they closed in on the island of Amazons, where they would certainly be attacked, but Zeus sent favourable winds that sent them to the island of Ares. While most of the Argonauts were on the hunt for supplies beyond the nearby Bear Mountain, their ship was attacked by the Gegeines, “the Earthborn,” a race of six-armed giants who happened to inhabit the same island. Thus, Pelias met his end at the hands of his daughters; his son, Acastus, became king and, naturally, exiled Jason and Medea from the island. When they were nearing the Argo, Medea used her sorcery to kill Apsyrtus, cut him to pieces and splashed them into water. He followed her into the water and drowned. The golden fleece has its own tale, but it was the fleece of the ram that became the constellation Aries. The centaur became his tutor and made it possible for Jason to grow up in a healthy young man. Recognizing the danger, Pelias asked Jason what he would have done if he had just met the man destined to bring about his death; perhaps inspired by Hera – who, just like Zeus with Heracles, wanted to heighten Jason’s glory – Jason replied that he would send that man to fetch the Golden Fleece. He realised that he would need a fast and enduring boat for such a long journey. In fear of losing her son, Alcimede sent Jason into the wilderness where he was raised by a centaur called Chiron. On the way back to the ship, the Argonauts encountered these ferocious creatures and with the help of Heracles overcame them quite easily. Getting too close to either of them would mean certain death for the Argonauts.
